Understanding and informing yourself on the incredible benefits of stem cells and stem cell research is critical with how ever-growing it is. In 2018 we now have the ability to treat many different diseases and ailments including Diabetes, heart disease, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Parkinson’s, and in some cases Alzheimer’s. With the science behind regenerative medicine many people are able to avoid destructive and invasive surgeries that could cause more potential pain in the future.
Stem cells are a vital part of what makes humans…human. We all have spawned from one single cell–the Zygote. The Zygote is formed once a sperm cell and egg cell fuse together for inception. In the early stages these embryonic cells can create anything–even organisms–and are called totipotent. These totipotent cells can become virtually any type of cell and are only in this stage for a few days, later becoming pluripotent, where they still can create any cell however are not able to create an organism. These types of cells are found in the umbilical cord and placenta blood and are utilized in some stem cell therapies at this moment. Eventually, as humans grow, the pluripotent cells become multipotent, which are most commonly used for stem cell therapy. These cells are more specialized and are not able to create any new cell–only very specific areas of the body.
The American Academy of Stem Cell Physicians is an association of some of the most talented pioneers in the research and development of stem cells. The team itself has dedicated time throughout the year to continue educating others on the advancements and benefits of treatment. With authorization from Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education, AASCP is able to promote and educate doctors while increasing the awareness of stem cells, improving lives of the many who get to benefit from treatments.
The purpose of this blog is to assist with the educating and informing of those interested in stem cell research. The purpose of the AASCP is to band together physicians to increase the awareness and competency of doctors utilizing stem cell therapy on their patients. On these pages you will find research articles and updates for the upcoming convention held by the AASCP in May 2019.
